As you’ve probably noticed, I haven’t posted anything in a while. One reason was thing have been very busy here but the other reason was, my WoW account was hacked. Now before you shake your head and tell me what I should have done, here’s my story.

Everyone knows that they should be using an authenticator and I was, it was the authenticator that you run on your iPhone. Well long story short, my iPhone broke and I had to remove the authenticator from my login so I could play the game. I had figured that once I received my new phone, I’d install the authenticator software and all would be good. Well between the time I changed my login and the time I received my new phone, all went downhill.

I was in Vegas for a weekend and hadn’t been playing when I checked my email and received an email from blizzard saying they had suspended my account for some reason. I’ve seen some of the phishing emails and since I was checking this on my (borrowed) phone, I couldn’t tell if it was real or not so I ignored it. A couple hours later I received another email saying my account was probably hacked and please contact support. Being in Vegas, I left this till I returned home.

Apon returning home the first thing I checked was the WoW Armory, I knew if for some reason I had a virus, using the armory I wouldn’t have to log in. The Armory showed me what I was expecting, my toon standing there in his underware. Time to contact Blizzard.

I’m not sure what or how I was hacked, I ran a virus scan and even tried a different virus scanner, I haven’t had or check any emails that could have been phishing. So I’m not sure what happened. I sent all this info to blizzard in an email, the hard part about letting blizzard know that you’ve been hacked is that you don’t receive an email saying ok, we’ll check it out.. you just wait.

I had actually sent them 2 emails, 1 saying I think I was hacked and 2. letting them know yes for sure I had and all the steps I had taken to make sure my computer wasn’t compromised. While I waited, I ordered an official authenticator from blizzard. I then waited, luckily I had other things to do, but the wait was around a week and a half. I then received an email from blizzard stating that they’ve investigated my account and they’ve replaced all my items and if any were taken from my guild, they were emailed to the guild leader.

Again to make sure of things, I had received my authenticator, so from work I updated my account to take the authenticator. now from home I can fee pretty safe about logging in. All my items were in my mailbox when I joined WoW and within 30 minutes I was off and questing like nothing had happened.

While grinding for the FrostSaber Mount, I got tired of doing the same old thing over and over again. So another thing on my list of to-dos was to receive the World Explorer Achievement. I know that when Cataclysm is released that many of the old world zones area going to change, I saw this as my last chance to really see them all. I’m also not sure what will happen to this achievement when the patch hits, so I may have an old world achievement that others will no longer be able to receive.

I started my quest at the very bottom of the Eastern Kingdoms and took the next 3 days (only an hour or so a day) to work my way over to Kalimdor and then to the rest of the known world. Being Alliance I did have a small amount of trouble in the Ghost lands but one you get out of the old world and can fly to most your destinations, you’r home free.

Are there any achievements that you’d like to finish before Cataclysm drops? What are they and why?

OK, I know there isn’t really a Michael Jackson NPC but my question to you is: If there was a Michael Jackson tribute NPC what would his name be, what race/class would he be and where in the WoW world would he be? We all know that the Male Night Elves dance comes from the Billie Jean video, so would his race be Night Elf? What would his quest be, looking for a magic pair of shoes?

I know this is a silly question but it came to mind this morning while listening about the 1 year anniversary of MJ’s Death.

Side Note: While we’re talking about Night Elves dancing, here is that original dance for the female Night Elves J’en ai marre

As I said in my last post, my new paladin has reached level 10, that means it’s time to choose our talents. The Paladin has choices between Holy, Protection and Retribution. But what talent tree is the best or I should say the best for you?

While you should choose the talent tree that works best with your style of fighting or how you’d like to fight, Got Warcraft says:

Retribution paladins, the offensive variant of the paladin class, have more recently become increasingly viable candidates for raiding positions as well as taking spots on arena teams where we were once seen as only healers. In fact, Paladins are now very common in high ranking arena teams and Ret Pallies are feared in the Battlegrounds.

Holy Paladins, however, have suffered somewhat for this, becoming increasingly unused in favor of shamans and druids as replacements. This in large part due to our inability to heal on the run and complete lack of AoE healing abilities, such as priests possess.

Finally the protection variant of paladin has prospered the greatest, finally taking a place alongside warriors and druids as a true possibility for primary tank throughout the raiding dungeons and various instances open to us.

My first instinct was to go the path of holy since I like using the all the spells and they help a lot while fighting but I’m going to give a good look at the other talents and combined with what weapons and armor I’d like to use, I may choose another talent spec. The good thing about choosing a talent in WoW is that you can test one, pay a small amount and change your talent tree when ever you like.

My Paladin has now reached level 10 and I’m starting to think what type of weapons I need. In my last post I was only worried about 1-handed or 2-handed weapons but now as I’m entering the world of green and above, I have to wonder what are the best weapon specs for my paladin?

Most of the time when I have a question like this I’ll do a lot of research and the when I have a good answer, I’ll combine all that info to a post so it’s easier for people to find. But for once my search has brought up a link that says it all and is worth sending my readers off to.

Identify what your Paladin needs the most. Again, this will vary depending on your spec. Retribution Paladins are mostly in need of Strength, Attack Power and Agility. Protection Paladins need Stamina, +Spell Damage, Intellect and possibly some +Spell Hit. Holy Paladins need Stamina, Intellect and +Healing. If you use a mixed spec, decide which you need the most of.

Read on as the site goes into greater detail on not only the weapon specs but what weapons work with what talents. How to Choose Weapons for your World of Warcraft Paladin

I’m almost there! I’m looking 70 right in the eyes This weekend I finally got some time to team up with my GM and with alot of his help we kicked out about 20 quest in Nagrand, if not more, this took me from 20% in level 66 to about 20% in 67, what a long hard grind, it would have taken me 8 hours to do other than the 3 that it did take.

Leading up to level 63 my GM had showed me some of the places to get rep and be able to grab some of the good gear and weapons, well now at level 67 I still haven’t run into any gear as good as I’ve been wearing, which means sell everything I get, which means some good coin toward that flying mount I’ll probably never see

Tonight I’ll again start the grind to slowly pull myself to level 68 but it’s a long grind ahead, I can see why some don’t make it through their 60′s.

Last night I decided to play with a couple macros, doing some reading, I saw that you can do everything from change gear, use trinkets and use spells. Since I use an addon to change gear, I didn’t need that, but the other things interested me.

After reading on the WoW Forums and BorkWeb some different examples of what you can do, I jumped right in and started my macro experience. My first try I wanted a macro that would, when I’m in stealth, I would pick pocket my target, activate my 2 trinkets, and then attack with one of my skills. This doesn’t work, OK it worked but I would pick pocket and when I activated my trinkets, I would be unstealthed, which defeats the entire process. Moving on, I decided to break my macros up, one for trinkets, one for stealth pick pocket and attack and one for hack and slash.

The trinket macro was easy, just use the trinket spot on your character:

/use 13
/use 14

Next I worked on my Pick Pocket, again a very easy macro:

/cast Pick Pocket
/stopcasting
/cast Cheap Shot

Then the hard part, How was I going to make my hack and slash macro, after further reading I saw a command called /castsequence in which you add what ever attacks you want in a row and then each time you mash that button it will do the next attack and better yet if you use the ? icon, it’s suppose to show the next attack you’ll use along with the cooldown timer. Sounded exactly what I wanted.

/startattack
/castsequence reset=target Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Eviscerate

Not exactly what I used but close enough. My first problem was I started to test it and as i’m mashing the button I see nothing happening, then I notice I’m completely spamming my guild channel with the entire macro like 10 times. Yes I was called a noob! I had a space in fromt of one of the slashes and it decided I wanted my guild to know what I was trying. Second problem, My icons never changed, so it only showed me my first attack and didn’t change after that, so I was flying blind on cool downs. Final and biggest problem, You don’t always want the exact same attack, for a rogue, you may sometimes miss or not get a CP for an attack, in which then you want to wait or add another attack, it takes the smart out of the attack and really isn’t much fun either.

I ended deleting the last macro and keeping the first 2, I’m not sure how often I’ll use the trinket one (I always forget the extra help) but the pick pocket/attack macro is nice, one button to do a couple things, I can then take over the attack from there and do what I need to do to bring the beast down.

Just a quick couple notes: When you choose your faction in Shatt, go check where your HearthStone is set to, believe me, it sucks to Hearth home and guards are suddenly trapping you and kicking you out of the city!

Another note, comes from the WoW forums:

Ok this has annoyed me for god knows how long.

call me a noob, call me what you will, but it is extremely annoying the amount of times I’ve arrived in the inn in shat aldor or scryer and i’m 90% of the time facing the wrong way. always trying to run out of the inn and end up in the inn instead of shat city.

ok i may be petty for saying this but does anyone else get annoyed with this or is it just a case of “get over it dude” and move on =)

Elphie kindly answered:

Stand where you want to be when you hearth in. Talk to the innkeeper and get a new hearthstone.

Your position when you hearth in is based on where you were standing when you get the set hearthstone spell cast on you. Hope that helps!

I’ll be fixing that tonight for myself!
